Description
This podcast episode offers congregations insights into how they can support social change in their communities. Guest Hahrie Han, a political science professor at Johns Hopkins University, believes congregations are an essential place for community transformation because they ground community work in relationships.
To explore congregations’ special role in community transformation, Good Faith Podcast host Curtis Chang and Han discuss her book Undivisible, which focuses on different individual’s experiences of a six-week antiracism program at Crossroads, a diverse, evangelical megachurch in Cincinnati. Han explains why the small-group format of the project, also called Undivisible, was essential to its success. Han also discusses how other factors contributed to the congregation’s success in racial healing work, such as Crossroads’ culture of belonging before belief, the autonomy individuals had to take ownership of solutions, and the option to continue small group work after completing the six-week program.
